The Indias tiniest Union Territory, Lakshadweep connotes “100,000 islands” in Malayalam lingo, which here is the local language. However, this Union Territory is comprised of 36 islands, making an archipelago, out of these only 10 are inhabited ones such as Agatti, Amini, Andrott, Bitra, Chetlat, Kadmat, Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Kiltan and Minicoy are inhabited. This archipelago is consists of 12 atolls, 3 reefs and 5 submerged banks in the Arabian Sea. Lakshadweep by Sea: The nearest seaport is at Agatti and the ships cruises are operated from Cochin. Four passenger ships M.V Tipusultan, M.V. Bharatseema, M.V Aminidivi and M.V Minicoy operate between Kochi and the islands.
