Lakshadweep

The Indias tiniest Union Territory, Lakshadweep connotes “100,000 islands” in Malayalam lingo, which here is the local language. However, this Union Territory is comprised of 36 islands, making an archipelago, out of these only 10 are inhabited ones such as Agatti, Amini, Andrott, Bitra, Chetlat, Kadmat, Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Kiltan and Minicoy are inhabited. Kavaratti is the Administrative Headquarters of the Union Territory. Lakshadweep stands as one of the world’s most magnificent tropical isles. Sprawled over an area of about 32 sq km, the island is bordered with 4200 km of sandy lagoon containing affluent marine wealth.


This archipelago is consists of 12 atolls, 3 reefs and 5 submerged banks in the Arabian Sea. These emerald islands with abundant greenery and bordered with the white coral beaches makes an overwhelming picture of the natural beauty. The sea offers excellent opportunities for water sports like swimming, wind-surfing, diving, snorkeling, water skiing, yachting and kayaking.

Lakshadweep by Rail: The nearest rail head is at Kerala having around 2000 railway stations in different cities connecting to the rest of the country and from there you can reach Lakshadweep.
Lakshadweep by Sea: The nearest seaport is at Agatti and the ships cruises are operated from Cochin. Four passenger ships M.V Tipusultan, M.V. Bharatseema, M.V Aminidivi and M.V Minicoy operate between Kochi and the islands.
