Watson Museum

Located in the jubilee gardens of Rajkot, Watson museum is one of the popular tourist spot in Gujarat. The entry to this wonderful museum is decorated with two attractive lion statues on the either side of the entry. The museum was built to honor the Brisith Political Agent in Kathiwad who initiated the documentation of historical artifacts with due patronage of the royal families in the region.


The Watson museum includes various artifacts from Mohenjodaro, natural history exhibits, 13th-century carvings, temple statues and costumes and design of the houses of the local tribal people. Along with that, it houses an excellent collection of traditional, archaeological items and coins. Apart from that, a huge marble statue of Queen Victoria seated on the throne is one of the major attractions at the museum.


The Watson museum at Rajkot in Gujarat provides the great information the heritage of the state and the country. The museum houses the rich collection of paintings and artifacts donated by the various royal families, an extensive memorabilia of Colonial rule influences with textiles and jewelry depicting Bharwads, Ahirs, Darbars and other indigenous people of the province.


The museum remains open from 9 am to 6 pm on all the days except on alternate Sundays and on public holidays. Entry fee to the Watson museum is Rs. 2 for Indians and Rs.50 for foreigners.
