The Tipu Sultan Shahi Mosque, situated in the state capital of West Bengal, Kolkata is renowned for its architectural style. Established in 1932, the mosque was constructed by the youngest son of Tipu Sultan, Prince Ghulam Mohammed, the mosque welcomes people from all the religions and sects of the world with its open arms.


Erected at 185 Dhartamtalla Street in Kolkata, the Tipu Sultan Shahi Mosque is a relic of architectural and cultural heritage of the 20th century.


The Mosque is double-aisled and there are about 16 domes and 4 Minarets and the two Imam manage this Tipu Sultan Mosque. Since 150 years back, the mosque is headed by two Imams, from its construction time. The deputy Shahi Imam, Maulana Hazrat Harron al Rashid performs the religious duties like Imamat and leading Namaaz.


The expenditures of the Tipu Sultan Mosque are incurred by the earnings of the rental properties possessed by Prince Ghulam Mohammed Wakf Estate (royal family trust) headed by His Highness Prince Anwar Ali as well as the selected officials who have been chosen by the Kolkata High Court.


During the early 1980’s, the Tipu Sultan Shahi Masjid Protection and Welfare Committee was established by Seraj Mubarki, Mohammad Sharfuddin, Izhar Khan and Syed Zafar. The committee was set up with the purpose of spreading awareness and educating the masses about the damage caused to the Masjid by the Metro railway. This committee is regulated by Mohammad Sharfuddin as its chairman and Aziz Mubarki as its secretary.


The current chairman of the mosque is Janab Sami Mubaraki, the Tipu Sultan Shahi Masjid Protection and Welfare Committee, who looks after the regular affairs of the mosque. In the year 2004, when there occurred Tsunami, the committee members held a helping hand by giving a considerable amount of money to the victims affected in the calamity. The mosque charity was a part of the Prime Minister`s Tsunami fund.
