The government museum and art gallery is the prominent tourists’ hub in Chandigarh, India. The museum showcases the rich collection of Gandharan sculptures, Pahari and Rajasthani miniature paintings. There are various stunning artifacts displayed at the museum arranged in separate galleries on the basis of its antiquity. The galleries at the museum include contemporary art gallery, Decorative Arts and Coins, Gandhara and Hindu sculptures and Miniature paintings.


The famous architect Le Corbusier has provided the most elegant design to the building of this museum. The museum in itself is given great splendor and is a topmost recommended place to visit in Chandigarh for all. Also, the museum has got the distinctive and unique collection of artifacts which will get you closer to the bygone era. The museum was inaugurated on the 6th May, 1968 under the initiative and active support of Late Dr. M.S. Randhawa, renowned connoisseur and patron of art and the then Chief Commissioner of Chandigarh. Having the best grandeur, the government museum and art gallery grabs huge attention of visitors from all over the world.


Government College of art is spread out aside the museum in the same campus.  The government museum and art gallery remains open from 10 am to 4.30 pm on all the days except on Mondays and on official holidays. The museum provides free entry for children below 12 years and for senior citizens. Entry ticket for adults is Rs 10 and for camera you need to pay Rs 5 extra.
