The Taragarh Fort of Kota is an enticing attraction in the city and was constructed in 1345. Also acknowledged as Star Fort, the fort stood as the center of the kingdom of Rajasthan. The fort is erected on a sharp hillside, rendering the quaint and panoramic views of the city, especially during the time of twilight.


This majestic fort is consist of six gates and also has massive reservoirs, which are believed to have been carved out of solid rocks and was used for providing waters to the nearby towns. Then there is the Bhim Burj, which stands as one of the largest rampart of the fort and is also considered as a legendary canon.


The fort of Taragarh holds a glorious past of the days of Rajput reign. Today, it stands s one of the popular tourist destinations in the city. However, the colossal fort has ravaged with time. The fort encircles the biggest fortification also known as the stone tower which is named as the Bhim Burj houses the famous cannon called Garbha Gunjan, which is the second largest cannon in India. The fort also possesses Miran Saheb ki Dargah, a former governor of the fort who sacrificed his life.


Apart from the fort’s opulence and architectural style, it also holds some of the interesting places to see. The famous attraction inside the fort is the famous Rani Mahal which was built for the wives and paramours of the rulers. There are several frescos hanging on the walls of the Rani Mahal, which have now been faded and even the windows of the fort are now left with broken stained glass. These objects act as the evidence of the glorious status and past, that hhas been enjoyed by the fort and its owners. Anpother highlight in the fort is Miran Saheb ki Dargha, which has been built in the memory of Miran Saheb, the governor of the fort and laid down his life.


The best time to visit the place is in the months from October to March. The fort is accessible through road and is just at a distance of about 39 km from the main city of Kota in Rajasthan. The nearest airport to the fort is at Jaipur and the nearest railhead is at Kota.
