Swaraj Bhavan

Swaraj Bhavan is the old Anand Bhavan that was built under the consideration of Moti Lal Nehru (the father of Jawahar Lal Nehru and a freedom fighter in 1930) in 1900. The building is adjacent to new Anand Bhavan and was later renamed by Moti Lal Nehru as Swaraj Bhavan. The building served as a headquarters of the congress committee in 1930. Later in the same year, when Gandhi Ji started Satyagraha the building became the main premises for its activities. Apart from that, a children school for creative arts & Jawahar Lal Nehru Trust along with Jawahar Lal Nehru Children Fund office is also located in Swaraj Bhavan.


Moving ahead, Swaraj Bhavan also houses a museum which regularly organizes an audio visual programme titled “The story of Independence” for the visitors. Tourists will have a great time enjoying the music and light show at the museum.


The museum also holds an underground meeting room where secret meetings pertaining to freedom movement were frequently held. Swaraj Bhawan remains open from 9:30 am to 5 pm on all the days except Mondays and on government holidays. One can visit to the museum throughout the year. You will get to know about a lot Indian political history at the place. Entry fee to Swaraj Bhawan is Rs. 5 for Indians and Rs 50 for Foreigners.
