Nestled just about 20 kilometers from the heart of Delhi, Surajkund Lake lies in the state of Haryana called Faridabad. Actually the lake positions on the border of Delhi and Haryana. This pleasant retreat is even less than an hour’s drive from Delhi’s city centre.


It is a man-made reservoir of water. Surajkund, the name suggests ‘Reservoir of the Sun’. the origin of this lake can be traced from the times f the Rajput Kings as the king Surajpal constructed it, in the pre-Sultanate days in around 10th century.


In fact, the lake is a water reservoir named after the Sun God. In one corner of the circular tank, there is a raised ramp and it is believed that elephants used the ramp. There lake is artificial, which gives an opportunity to the people for enjoying adventurous activities like boating and has become one of the favorite picnic spot. The calm waters of the lake that are fed by annual rains, greets with a relief to the busy population of the capital.


Especially in the month of February, the place gathered by huge masses as it is the time of the Surajkund mela, which is held for the consecutive 15 days and artisans from all over the country come here to display their wares.
