Like Goa, Diu is also a Portuguese colony. This Portuguese colony is positioned on the western coast from the Gulf of Cambay. The St. Paul’s Church, Diu, located in Diu Island; a Union Territory of India falls on the west coast of India. The church is placed within the Diu Fort, which came under the Portuguese colonists, during their reign in the early 16th century, counting it as the 400 years old church.
The St. Paul’s Church, was named after St. Paul, the disciple of Jesus also acknowledged as the Apostle to the Gentiles. The church is the most legendary, existing and is still in operation, among the three churches, which were built by the Portuguese in Diu. It is considered one of the best examples of baroque architecture (artistic style) in India. The beauty of the church beholds in its architectural style and lavish wood carving. Even at a glance its mesmerizing beauty grabs the viewer’s eyes. The church is dedicated to our Lady of Immaculate Conception.
