Solapur is one of the largest cities in the Indian state of Maharashtra, which serves both as a city and a district. The city Solapur took its name by combining the two words “Sola” and “Pur”, where “Sola” means sixteen and “Pur” means village. This is relevant since Solapur is considered to include sixteen villages. The city of Solapur has formed itself as a commercial hub for the production of cotton and other agricultural materials.
