Solapith and Dhokra are the two most famous traditional art crafts of west Bengal state in India. The Solapith art also referred as shoal and Indian cork is a milky-white sponge wood which is carved into delicate and beautiful artistic objects. Solapith is used to make the decorative items for home such as wall hangings etc. apart from that, the Solapith art is also used in making the ornate headgears of brides and grooms for marriages and also in sacred thread ceremony. Along with that, the lustrous inner portion of the Solapith plant is used to make intricate decorations for deities during festivals. Other items like garlands and floral bouquets are also made with the product.


Talking about Dhokra, it is a craft which is actually done by nomadic clan in the past using the metals like brass and scrap. Today, the products are used for making beautifully shaped decorated metal products in Dhokra craft. The craft is used for making the idols of horses, elephants, peacock, owl, religious images, and measuring bowls, lamp caskets and many more. The product made in the Dhokra art style are not only likes by the domestic people but also is very famous internationally.
