Shivajisagar lake

Shivajisagar lake

The Shivajisagar Lake is a reservoir in Maharashtra, which was formed subsequent to the construction of the Koyna Dam. This is the catchment area of the dam created out of the Koyna River and ultimately forming the Shivajisagar Lake which is something like 50 km in length and 80 m in depth.

Formed by the Koyna dam project, which stands as one of the largest civil engineering projects commissioned after Indian independence. The Koyna hydro-electric project is run by the Maharashtra State Electricity Board.

The lake lies towards the south of the Mahabaleshwar, the River Koyna and its tributaries the Solishi and Kandati, which amalgamates into each other to bring out this colossal lake, which is named as Shivajisagar. Shivajisagar lake is perhaps the largest lake in the country.
