One of the most venerated Sarovar in Kurukshetra is the Sannihit Sarovar, is believed to be the meeting point of seven sacred Saraswathies. The Sannihit Sarovar is spread over an area of 550 ft in its breadth and 1500 ft in its length. Devotees gather here to offer their worship and prayers to the souls of their departed loved ones. Kumbha Mela in the Sarovar is another attraction for the tourists and gathers thousands of devotees and visitors here.
According to the legends, the place is believed to be the home of Lord Vishnu. Devotees frequently visit and it is believed that a holy dip in its holy waters takes away all their sins. Especially, having baths on the day of Amavasi or on the day of an eclipse would bring in the fortune of an aswamedha yajna.
Sannihit holds special sanctity. It is also believed to be the seat where the wandering souls of the unhappy dead finding moksha or can be said as their release from worldly ties. This land is specially recommended for the prayers and pind daan, an activity to release the souls from this material world. Both these divine acts are, considered and recommended for the unnatural deaths. On one side of this renovated tank, there lies a series of small temples of Dhruv Narayan, Lord Vishnu, Laxmi Narayan, Dhruv Bhagat, Lord Hanuman and Mother Goddess, Durga.
