Salim Ali Lake

Salim Ali Lake

Nestled in the heart of the city of Aurangabad is popularly known as Salim Ali Talab. The lake is situated in the northern side of the city and was also known as Khiziri Talab during the reign of Mughal Empire. It was renamed after Salim Ali, who was a great ornithologist and naturalist. There is also the office of Divisional Commissioner Aurangabad Division, situated in the close proximity to the lake along with the collectors office of Aurangabad District.

This lake has been affected and contaminated with the discharge of domestic waste that has polluted the water into the lake and the sediment deposition took place thereby reducing its depth. It also resulted in dreadful conditions of water quality thus in turn badly affected the health of people living in surrounding areas.

The Hon. High Court has ordered the Municipal Corporation to take immediate action to bring to an end to the sewage discharge in the Salim Ali Lake.
