The Rock Fort temple is the famous 7th century monument which is composed into two parts, one which is dedicated to lord Ganesh and another dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is situated in a small city called Trichy in Tamil Nadu, the southern state of India. One of the major attractions which differentiate this temple from other temples in Tamil Nadu is that it is located at the top and is carved out of the rock. This ancient temple was built by Pallavas on hundred million years old hill in 580 AD. Built on an 83 meters high rock, the temple requires an effort to climb up the 437 steps that are cut into the stone top reach the top.


The Rock Fort temple in Tiruchirappalli is a collection of three temples – the Manikka Vinayaka temple at the foot of the hill, the Uchhi Pillayar Kovil at the top of the hill and the Taayumaanava Kovil (Shivastalam) on the hill. The steep steps carved on the rock and provides a stunning view of nearby surroundings if the Trichy. The temple has got the ancient impressive architecture from the time of Pallavas. It is maintained by the Archaeological Department of India. The temple attracts large number of tourist every year, from all over the world, making the place an important tourist destination in Tamil Nadu.
