Historically known as Ratnapuri, Ratlam stands as the city in the northwestern part of the Malwa region which lies in the heart of incredible India, Madhya Pradesh. The city of Ratlam stands at an elevation of about 480 m, above sea level and is sprawled over an area of about 4,861 sq km.


The District of Ratlam was established in June 1948 and was reorganized in the following year in January. The town is one of the important regions of the state and was founded by Borthwick in 1829.


The Headquarters of the Ratlam District is Ratlam, which was also the headquarter of Princely State of Ratlam. The district of Ratlam covers the former princely State of Ratlam, Jaora, Sailana, Piploda. Ringnod Tehsil of Dewas Senior, Alot Tehsil of Dewas Junior and parts of Mandsaur Tehsil of Gwalior State, a few villages of Dhar State and Chief Commissioners provinces of Pant Piploda.
