Pushkar Fair, popularly known as Pushkar ka Mela is the famous festival of Rajasthan, India. It is basically the camel and livestock fair held in the Pushkar city. The fair is held at the banks of the Pushkar Lake. It is the largest camel fair and is the major tourists attraction in India. People from all over the country and even from outside it visit this amazing fair.


It is celebrated for five days from the Kartik Ekadashi to Kartik Poornima, the full moon day (the 15th) of Kartik (October–November) in Hindu calendar. It is said that on the full moon day the Hindu god Brahma visited the Pushkar Lake. Thus, people come to swim in the sacred water of the Lake.


There are various interesting aspects of the festival. “Matka phod”, “longest moustache”, and “bridal competition” are the main competitions held at the fair. Apart from that, people buy and sell their livestock, which includes camels, cows, sheep and goats. Also, people especially women can buy a lot of interesting things from this fair. Some of them include bracelets, clothes, textiles and fabrics. The fair also hosts a camel race where camel are sent one by one and tested on how they bring the different items.
