Punnamada Lake or Punnamada Kayal being an expansion of the Vembanad Lake stands as the largest and the longest lake in the state of Kerala. The lake is sprawled over the Kuttanad region in the district of Alappuzha. The area is swathed with the scenic beauty and is bordered with extensive coconut trees and areca nut trees.


You will also have a view of many small boats sailing through the lake for transportation and stuff. An excursion in these boats will render a pictorial view of the paddy fields, canals and the palm groves.

The lake is spread over a large area touching the rims of several districts of the state of Kerala. A portion of the lake also conducts an annually boat race called as the Nehru Boat Race also called as Nehru Trophy Race. The race is held in the month of August.
