Pune, also known as Poona, stands as the seventh largest metropolis in India is the second largest city in the Indian state of Maharashtra after Mumbai and is also the largest city lying on  the Western Ghats.

Formerly known as Punawadi, Pune came into existence as a town since 847 AD. The city once had been the centre of power of the Maratha Empire and is erected at an altitude of 560 m above sea level on the Deccan plateau at the junction of the Mula and Mutha rivers. Pune also claims to be the administrative capital of the district of Pune. The city holds some of the long-standing bastions of the Maratha Empire and also was a home to the legendary Raja Shivaji.

Climate of Pune
