Port Blair, the capital and possesses the largest township of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Lying on the eastern coast of the southern region of Andaman Island, serves as a base for the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy. This hill city is also known by a name called ‘Emerald Islands’, named after Lieutenant Archibald Blair in 1789. It is an island with scenic beauty, lies in the east side of the river Bay of Bengal. There are also ship services running regularly from Chennai, Vishakhapatnam, and Kolkata ports to Port Blair. The cruise takes 50-60 hours and the ship is docked at Port Blair within the period of two to four days.
