Pilani Birla museum also known as the Birla museum is India‘s first technological museum. One of the best science museums in the country, Birla museum is situated in Pilani city of Rajasthan state in India. Built in 1954, the idea of setting up the museum was initiated by Shri L.N. Birla. The museum houses 17 galleries each have the interactive exhibits, providing a lot of information on the working of complex gadgets and machinery. It is the first technology and science museum established by the Birla’s to provide technical education. The museum is an inspiration to establish more of technological museums in the country.


The 17 galleries in the Birla Museum provide the hands on experience of working with different gadgets and machineries. The different galleries in the museum are named as Human Biology Gallery, AV Birla Memorial, Electronics Gallery, Mining Gallery, Centuries Progress Gallery, G.D.Birla Memorial, Art Gallery, Arms and Weapons Gallery, Agriculture Gallery, Textile Gallery, Chemical Technology Gallery, Space Gallery, Aerodynamics Gallery, Transportation Gallery, Metallurgy Gallery, Energy Conversion Gallery and Science Gallery.


The museum is open for visitors on all days from 9.15 AM to 12.45 PM in the morning and from 3 PM to 5 PM except on Mondays and on holidays. The entry fee to the Pilani Birla Museum is Rs 10. Also, the museum offers 50 % discount to the school groups who came to visit the museum with prior permission.
