Phensang Monastery is the famous Buddhist monastery situated on the gentle slope that spreads from Kabi to Phodong in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim state in India. The monastery belongs to Nyingmapa Order and is the home for around three hundred monks. This 1721 monastery hosts an annual festival on the 28th and 29th day of the tenth month of the Tibetan calendar where sacred dances are performed, two days before the Sikkimese New Year. However, the place was not as good as it is today. The Phensang monastery has witnessed a devastating five which destroyed it completely in 1947. With the efforts of lamas it was rebuilt in 1948 and is an important place to visit in Sikkim. There are various other tourist attractions in Sikkim.
