Pelling

Pelling is a picturesque town which is nestled in the district of the West Sikkim, forming a part of India. Today, it stands as the second biggest tourist spot in the north eastern state of Sikkim, after Gangtok. The town stands at an elevation of about 2,150 m above the sea level.


The city stands at a distance of about 10 km from its district Geyzing and is little more than just a road lined with a series of hotels as the city’s main USP is its breathtaking sights of the Mount Khangchendzonga.


The mighty Himalayas and the Kanchenjanga makes up as the majestic view and stands as one of the favorite spots among the tourists. The town also provides opportunity for the adventure activities like trekking and mountaineering. A visit to this petite city reveals its unexplored beauty which requests for the attention wearing a carpet of alpine vegetation while representing a contrasting view of the town.


The town is infringed by the charming cascades, which are as well seen under the sheet of blanket during the peak periods of winters, when the temperature drops down below zero degree. The local people of the town are mainly Buddhists, who are found speaking Sikkimese language. The main attractions of the town are its monasteries and its countryside.


A visit to the monasteries like Pemayansgtse Monastery and Sangachoeling Monastery is a soulful affair. Then there are many sculptures and paintings that you can find in these places and they are not crowded.


In the month of January, the monastery of Pemayansgtse has an additional charm with its dance known as the Cham Dance.


Other attractions of the town are Sangay Waterfalls, Kchehepalri Lake and Rabdantsey Ruins, along with its vast nature that is stretched till the horizons.


The town is easily accessible via road within the state and is just at a distance of 115 km from the state capital Gangtok and is at 135 km drive away from the city of West Bengal, which offers the town the nearest railhead as well as airport. Another airport which is near to the town is at the city Bagdogra, also belongs to the West Bengal.
