Paravur Kayal is the largest natural Backwater Lake, standing at Paravur of the state of Kerala. The lake is sprawled over an area of 6.62 sq km and is the concluding point of the river Ithikkara and also a part of Kerala Backwaters. This small town gives us an opportunity to witness the confluence of the sea and the river. It lies on the Malabar Coast just at a distance of 60 km from Thiruvananthapuram. The lake has been joined with Edava Kayal and Ashtamudi Kayal as a component of the Trivandrum – Shoranur canal system and it dates back to the 19th century. It is just at a distance of 20 km from Kollam and 15 km from Varkala Beach.
