Nokrek National Park, also known as biosphere reserve is situated just at a 2km drive from Tura Peak in the Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. The park is spread over an area of 47.48 sq km is the centre.


The park forms a green canopy of thick, lofty and lush forests envelop the reserve and its surrounding area. Placed at an altitude of 4650 ft above sea level, Nokrek is the highest peak in the Garo Hills and also houses some unusual species of orange locally known as Memang Narang.


Nokrek National Park in Meghalaya shelters many varieties of species of various reptiles, invertebrate animal, mammals and avi-fauna such as Clouded Leopard, Golden Cat, Wild Buffalo, Serow, Capped Langur, Fishing-Cat, Pangolin, Green Pigeon, etc. The national park also keeps various animals that are found very rare. Some of the rare species of flora are orchids, grand rasamala, white meranti, lali, chempaka and wild lemon.


Nokrek National Park keeps a hold of rock composition including granulites, amphibolites, gneisses, migmatites and banded iron irrupted by ultra basic bodies. The soil at Nokrek National Park in Meghalaya has all sandy, clayey and red loam. Most of the soil part comprises organic matter and nitrogen and lacks in phosphate and potash. The region of Nokrek National Park is all with sedimentary rocks such as shale, pebbles and sand stones. The park offers Activities such as camping, trekking, bird watching etc. making it as one of the favorite place of nature and adventure lovers.
