Located at Bogmalo road, Dabolim, 6 km from Vasco da Gama in Goa, India, Naval aviation museum is one of the major tourists attractions. The museum is established as a tribute to the origin and evolution of the Indian Naval Wing. Only one of its kind in whole Asia, the museum was inaugurated on October 12, 1998 and is divided into two sections, an out-door exhibit and a number of indoor galleries. Started off with the collection of six vintage naval aircrafts, the museum now has twelve aircrafts at display. It is also recognized as the India’s second largest aviation museum. Sea Harrier, Sea Hawk, Sealand, Alize, Dove, Vampire and Hughes are the names of some aircrafts that are exhibited at the outdoors of the museum. Apart from these, the giant Lockheed L-1049G Super Constellation borrowed by the Navy from the Indian Air Force is the one that no one can ignore at the gallery.
On the other hand, the indoors of the museum is showcased with the replicas of aircraft carriers INS Vikrant and INS Viraat. The weapons and armaments galleries display a variety of bombs, torpedos, sensors and cannon used by naval aircraft over the ages mark the major attraction at the museum. The photo gallery is further provided with the old photos profiling the Naval Aviation History from 1959 onwards in pictures and footnotes. To explore more of this wonderful place, visit the place from 10.00 am. to 5.00 p.m. on all the days except Mondays.
