National gallery of portraits is the famous museum in Chandigarh, India providing the glimpse of India’s long struggle for independence that spanned over two centuries. Established in 1977, this museum has the main aim of making the youth aware of the great struggle that the yesteryear people had to suffer to attain their long cherished dream of independence. The gallery highlights the portraits and the audios of great Indian leaders who made a great attempt to make it to the India’s struggle for independence. The documents related to the struggle for independence are also there at the museum. There is an amazing library having the wide collection of books on freedom movement. Furthermore, the museum exhibits the impressive collection of photographs of original writings, ceramic murals and sculptures.


The national gallery of portraits also shows the film on the freedom movement of India on every Sunday at 2 pm. The gallery remains open for public from 9 am to 5 pm on all the days except on Mondays and on official holidays. The place will let you explore various historical events and incidents. One should definitely visit the gallery to feel the energy of the freedom movement that the freedom fights had at that time.
