The opening destination of the northern district, Mangan happens to be stand on the territory of the Indian state of Sikkim, which takes its place in the north eastern part of the country. It also opens up the Tibetan area and it also has the headquarters of the district. The town is erected at an elevation of about 956 m and is circumscribed by snow-capped mountains. The history of this beautiful town dates back to the 9th century when Guru Rinpoche sanctified Mangan with Buddhism. During that time the region was conquered by the Bhutanese and later went into the hands of the Chinese Qing Dynasty.


This heavenly place with mesmerizing beauty connects itself to the state capital, Gangtok, which is positioned at a drive of about 65 km through a metalled road. It is also acknowledged as the world capital of large cardamom, for its massive production of cardamom.

Other places to visit in Mangan are Hee-Gyathang, Barfok and Lingdong. Then there are other monasteries such as the Phensong and Phodong Monastery.
