The town of Malinithan is located in the district of West Siang, which forms a part of the north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is nestled at the foothills of the Siang Hills, which falls in the Sub division of Likabali.


It is believed that the place took its name from the legendary story that is related to Lord Krishna. In the story it is mentioned that the Lord Krishna appraised and valued Goddess Parvati as “Sucharu Malini”. From there the word Malinithan derived its name.


The story states that while on their way to Dwark from Bhismakanagar, Lord Krishna and His wife Rukmini took some rest at the very place and were offered beautiful flowers from Goddess Parvati. Lord Krishna was pleased with this gesture of Goddess Parvati and addressed her as Malini-Mistress of Garland.


The place Malinithan is the evidence of relics of the revered temple. West Siang District touches the borders of China in its north; in its east it shares its borders with Upper Siang & East Siang districts, in its south it is bordered with Assam and in its west it has the districts of Upper Subansiri & Lower Subansiri of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The rivers such as Sipu and Siyom also traverse through the district. The place is situated just 1 km drive from Likabali city and is about 185 km from the state capital Itanagar.
