Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, also acknowledged as Wandoor Marine National Park, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Andaman. The park was constructed on 24 May 1983 under the act of Wildlife Protection 1972, in order to protect marine life includes the corals and nesting sea turtles others sustaining in a particular area. The national park is under the supervision of the Chief Wildlife Warden of the forest department of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.


The park is famous for its Marine life, situated in an exotic island known as Andaman Islands. the park is spread over an area of 281 sq km and is created out of 15 islands including like Alexandra, Red Skin, Boat, Hobday, Tarmugli, Grub, Chester, Snob, Bell, Pluto, Malay, Jolly Boys, Riflemen, Twins and parts of Rutland island make up this park and the open sea creeks flowing through the area. The ecotourism on the islands Jolly Boys and Red Skin can be real experience as it offers glass bottom boats, scuba diving and snorkeling as a way to see the parks coral reefs and marine life.


The National Park encircles a scintillating golden beach with having the background of soft sands and lush green forests with coconut palms. This renowned marine park encloses part of open sea & a number of small and large islands and creeks. The park also offers the opportunity for scuba diving; in fact, Andaman is one of the best locations for the sport. With that even you can witness very closely to the underwater marine life in the beaches including corals and sea weeds.


Nestled just 29 km from Port Blair, the park lies on the South Western coast of South Andaman, in the Bay of Bengal. The parks boundary runs along the coasts as well as some time along island within the range of latitude between 11°22, 06″ and 11° 36 -34″ N and longitude between 92° 30.00″W and 92° 40.33 E. The park possesses a variety of fauna and flora as it has all bushy vegetated islands, magnificent coral reefs and scintillating sandy beaches and mangroves. Rich marine life consists of variety of coral reefs, colorful fishes, mollusks, shells, starfish, turtles, salt-water crocodile etc.


Even you can witness an array of birds such as White-Bellied Sea Eagle, Parakeets, Andaman Teal, Heron, Terns, Waders, Swifts etc as this place is a perfect bird watching sight. The best time to visit there place is from October till February. Regular bus services are also operated from Bus Terminus to Wandur.
