Lake Tsomgo is the most beautiful glacial lake lies in the east of Sikkim state in India. The lake is situated at an altitude of 3,780 m (12,400 ft) and 40 kms away from Gangtok. This holy lake is 20 kms from Nathula pass, is worshipped by Sikkimese people. The water in this lake has been accumulated by the melting snow on the nearby located mountains. The river Lungtze Chu originates from this lake, which meets Rangpo-chu down its course. Being surrounded with amazingly pleasant atmosphere the lake is also a major tourist destination. According to the history, the lamas used to study the color of this lake to forecast about the future. They believed, if the water had a dark tinge, it indicates a year full of trouble and unrest in the state. Also, during winters the entire lake gets frozen.
