Khonsa is a hill station and also the headquarters of Tirap district which forms a part of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. The town also stands as a cosmopolitan as it houses people of various castes and religions of India. It stands at an elevation of about 1,215 m. Khonsa is the easternmost tip of the country and is nestled in the south east part of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.
The historical background of the Khonsa Region in the state states that this area of the state was primarily occupied by the Nocte and Wanchoo tribes. Not only these traditional tribes reside over their but also the migrants of the neighboring states like Nagaland, Assam, Myanmar and Bangladesh, reside over the place.
The town holds its mysterious history and even for its isolated position in the country gained it a title of ‘forgotten land’. It is said that the place has been under the British Administration during the time of Colonization.
This beautiful place is all flanked by surging hills, rocky terrain and lush green mountains along with steep valleys and extensive plantations that are spread over stretched grounds. The region is all rocky and mountainous and is encircled with many streams and rivers. Khonsa is mainly covered by the Namsang-Dirak River Valley and partly by the Tissa River Valley. The region is swamped under the lush green tropical forests.
Khonsa is home to various species of avian and animals. Some of the animals that are commonly found in the region are wild boar, bear, barking deer, red panda, tiger, leopard, jackal, musk deer, mithun, numerous species of rodents, etc. The forests of Khonsa have more than 500 species of fine varieties of orchids.
The region of Khonsa also provides opportunity to indulge into the adventurous activities like trekking and hiking. There are some interesting places in the region t visit such as The Khonsa Museum, Namdapha National Park and Miao, adds an additional attraction to the place.the languages that are spoken by the local people of the area are Assamese, Hindi, Nocte, Wancho and English.
The best time to pay a visit to the place is in the months from September till April.
