Located on the Kheba Hill on the Indo-Myanmar road in Khongjom city of Manipur state in India is a famous tourist destination. It was built in as a tribute to the heroes who lost their lives in the war between the Manipuri soldiers and the British Army in 1891. 30 feet tall gate of the Khongjom War Memorial was inaugurated on 23 September, 2010 by Okram Ibobi Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur. Now, every year 23rd April is celebrated as the Khongjom day at the memorial. The celebration incorporates a grand celebration which is attended by all the renowned politicians and ministers along with a huge crowd. Manipur Rifles pay the guard of honor with a general salute. Furthermore, tributes are also given through Reverse Arms, sounding of last two minutes silence, slope arms and order arms. Apart from that, religious offering are made at the Khongjom River, extending with a salute given to the statue of Paona Brajabashi. Khongjom War Memorial travel and tourism is the best way of exploring this historical monument. A large number of tourists visit the place to witness the memorial as a salute to the Manipur soldiers who lost their lives while serving to the nation.
