The hill resort of Kalimpong is nestled in the Mahabharat Range also known as the Lesser Himalayas, forming a part of the north eastern Indian state of West Bengal. This hill resort of West Bengal stands at an elevation of about 1,250 m above the sea level. This hill town is also the headquarters of the Kalimpong subdivision and a component of the district of Darjeeling.
This quaint little hill station is perfect escapade from those hectic commercial lives and chaotic lifestyle. Nestled with solitude in the hills the hill town of Kalimpong connects the two hills namely, Deolo and Durpin Hills which stands at an altitude of about 4,091 m above the sea level. This beautiful hill station also renders a breathtaking view of Mt. Kanchenjunga. The popular river of the state called as the Teesta River segregates the hill city of Kalimpong from the state of Sikkim, flowing all along the highway as the road takes to Kalimpong from Siliguri along with several hairpin bends and hill sides that are swamped with lush green pine groves.
This wonderful land is dotted with many Buddhist monasteries, temples and few churches, which adds an additional charm to the hill city. The town boasts Buddhism culture and holds many religious attractions, which interests people.
Some of the famous Buddists monasteries are Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, Thongsha Gumpha, Tharpa Choling Monastery, and the Zong Dog Palri Fo Brang Gompa. The popular churches here in the city are Catholic Church and St Theresa Church. Other toris attractions of the town are Neora National Park, Deolo Hill and Mangal Dham. The place also offers opportunity for hiking and trekking, making it one of the favorite places among the adventure lovers. In the suburbs of the hill resort, the Indian Armys 27 Mountain Division is also situated is also another attraction for the tourists.
The best way to reach Kalimpong is travelling via road from Darjeeling. The Bagdogra airport, which is situated at a distance of about 80 km, is the nearest airport to Kalimpong.
