Jhansi Fort is traced from the seventeenth century, which had been erected by Raja Bir Singh Deo of Orchha in the year 1613. This renowned fort is placed on the top of the rocky Bangara hills which lie in the city of Jhansi. As the legends have it, the fort played a key role during the first war in the independence of India. The fort stands as one of the well-known tourists destinations in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.


The fort is popular for its architectural beauty and its majestic size. This fort had once been the house of Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi, who fought against the British soldiers for attaining freedom and in the due course she achieved martyrdom.


In the interiors of the fort there is a museum with a huge compilation of sculptures which let to have an insight of the eventful history of the Bundelkhand dynasty. The fort has ten gates including the Khandero Gate, Datia Darwaza, Unnao Gate, Jharna Gate, Laxmi Gate, Sagar Gate, Orcha Gate, Sainyar Gate, and Chand Gate. During the reign of the Peshwas, Jhansi fort was known to be the capital of the district. The other excursions within the main fort area are the Karak Bijli Toup (Tank), Rani Jhansi Garden, Shiv temple and a Mazar of Ghulam Gaus Khan, Moti Bai and Khuda Baksh.
