Standing on an island in the Lake Pichola, Jag Mandir Palace is also referred to as the “Lake Garden Palace”. This palatial structure is created out of marble and yellow sandstone, adding the grace of the city of Udaipur which lies in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The palace inherited with historical importance is a three storeyed edifice and its constructed is credited to the three Maharanas of the Sisidia Rajputs of Mewar Kingdom. The palace started off with its construction in the year 1551 by Mharana Amar Singh, which was further continued by Maharana Karan Singh during the period of 1620 to 1628 and was finally completed by Maharana Jagat Singh during 1628 to 1652.


The palace got its name from the last Maharana, in order to pay a tribute to him. The palace used to be a summer resort for the royal families and was also used as the place for holding parties and meetings of the royal group.


The Jag mandir Palace acted as an asylum during the sepoy mutiny in the year 1857, as a number of European families took shelter here from Neemuch. The palace is a marvelous place to have some cherished moments of life and it also renders an incredible sight of sunrise and sunset to its visitors.


Apart from the architecture of this majestic palatial edifice, there are some more attractions in its interior and the predominant attraction of the palace is the Gul Mahal, which is created out in Islamic style and stands as the place where Khurram stayed. There is also a mosque that was built for the royal guests to offer their prayers. Then there are eight white-colored majestic elephants, which are constructed out of marble, facing the Lake Palace.


Another attraction in the fort is Bara Patharon ka Mahal, which has been made up of twelve solid marble slabs. There is another place called Kunwar Pada ka Mahal which also stands as a must-see spot in the palace. Along with that, you will also find a restaurant named Darikhana Restaurant, which was opened by Arvind Singh of Mewar in the year 2001. The purpose of establishing this restaurant was to host lavish parties. For the royal ladies, in the palace there is a place with several chambers has been built facing the beautiful view of the lake.


The palace also provides boating facility to its visitors, which is enchanted with the beauty of the palace. A boat ride will take you to the royal settings of Jag Mandir giving a slight moment to sneak a peek of the rich cultural past of the palace.


The best time to visit the place is from October to February as the city experience a pleasant kind of climate. The city of Udaipur has an airport, connecting it to the other major cities of the country. Even the city also possesses a railhead as well as an excellent network of roadways with all state and national bus transport.
