Indian War Memorial Museum

Located in red fort, New Delhi, Indian war memorial Museum is one of the major attractions to visit in New Delhi. The museum was established as a tribute to the soldiers who fought world war for the freedom of India. The first two floors of the museum are accommodated in the Naubat Kahana or Naqqar Khana of the Red Fort. The introductory gallery comprises diorama showing the battle of Panipat with the army of Babur and Ibrahim Lodi standing opposite each other. Wide variety of objects including arrows, swords, khukris, revolvers, machine guns, shells etc used in the war are displayed at the museum. Apart from that, the variety of daggers with ivory and inscribed hilt, chest armour, small weapons like gupti, battle axes are also exhibited at the museum. All the things that are displayed at the museum provide the picture of the war times where our soldiers fought with immense bravery and with many difficulties.


Furthermore, gallery No. 2 and 3 at the museum is displayed with the items including Helmets, armours, different types of swords, daggers etc. The other two galleries at the museum shows the impact of European industrialization over the weapons and communication since radars, telephone, telegraph, signal lamps, guns with periscope, trench periscope etc were introduced during the war. Along with that, there is one major attraction at the museum which is the dress of Maharaja of Jodhpur, Pratap Singh including his kurta (long shirt), belt, trouser, turban with zari work, shoes and inscribed sword with sheath.
