Fateh Sagar Lake claims to be the second manmade lake, the first being Jaisamand lake, forming a part of the city of Udaipur, which is more commonly known as the city of lakes in the Indian state of Rajasthan.


The lake is situate in the northern side of Lake Pichola and was constructed by Maharan Jai Singh, in the year 1678. The lake took three long years in its construction and was inaugurated in the year 1746. The lake actually lies in the North West side of the city of Udaipur. Considered as the pride of the city, the lake of Fateh Sagar lies at the side of the entrance of Moti Magri Hill. The lake got its name from Maharan Fateh Singh, who later made additions to the lake.


While drawing the statistics of the lake, the lake measures to about 2.4 km of length, 1.6 km of breadth and a depth of about 11.6 km; and during the monsoon season, this lake covers the total area of about 1 sq km. Fateh Sagar Lake is well-planned lake and has three intake channels along with an overflow channel to cope up with the inundation of waters during the rainy season. This lake of Fateh Sagar is embellished by three petite islands and these islands can be reached via boat from the lake. Among these three small islands, the largest one has been developed into a park and is recognized as Nehru Garden/Park, which was initially known as Jag Niwas. This park also has a restaurant which is formed into a shape of a boat, along with that it also has a small zoo, for the children. This island park is one of the favorite picnic spot of the locals.


This pear-shaped lake can be reached via road and it lies on the Moti Magri Road, Fateh Sagar Drive and Rani Road.
