You can’t just escape from having a glance on it as it is erected just ahead of the railway station, on the opposite side of the road. The great grand church is giant one with stunning and striking building structure.
The Eglise de Sacre Coeur has all the accessories that a typical Gothic church possesses. It has everything from rose windows, twin spires to imposing facade. It has all startling color such as deep red, dark green and white on its walls.
The interiors of the church can be expressed with a phrase – ravishing. It has a remarkable combination of French colonial and South Indian. The walls of the church, are bejeweled with interesting and captivating ornaments and are crafted with terracotta – and enclosing some striking stained glass.
The most striking thing was the stained glass art form that is displayed at the Eglise de Sacre Coeur De Jesus in Pondicherry as it is imbibed at the windows, on all the side-walls of the church. The painting of a saint is there displayed on each window, as the presence of Joan of Arc is creates a remarkable ambience. Though time has taken its toll on these stained glasses by parting these into two, yet the beauty of the church still grabs one’s eyeballs.
Another unique and exciting piece of art in the Eglise de Sacre Coeur De Jesus in Pondicherry is the figurine of Madonna on the right side of the high altar. The most exceptional thing about the sculpture is that it is draped in a bright blue nylon sari.
