Durgam Cheruvu is a freshwater lagoon which is situated in the district of Rangareddy, lying in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The lake is sprawled over an area of about 83 acres and is just at a distance of 16 km from the city of state capital, Hyderabad. This lake is popularly known as the ‘Secret Lake’, for the fact that it is placed between the Jubilee Hills and Madhapur, almost hidden between them. Durgamma Cheruvu, popularly known as “Durgam Cheruvu”, is located in the nearby surroundings of Shilparamam craft Village, Jubilee Hills, Kavuri Hills, Hitech City.


The lake dates back to the ancient times as is believed to be the source of drinking water to the Golconda Fort. The lake is flanked by the scenic beauty of nature. It is believed that the reason behind its fascinating name is that for many years this lake was kept as a secret for there were no roads in the area, which ranges to about 20 years and thus receive its partial name as the Secret Lake.


The lake of Durgam Cheruvu is sprawled over an area of about 63 acre and is flanked by hills of the Deccan Plateau. Today, this secret lake is among the favorite place of the visitors and has become a nice weekend getaway.


The lake offer many recreational opportunities like boating, quietitude and fishing and is also assisted with a nice restaurant. Another thing that attracts the visitors is that this lake is a host of many movies and also earns good revenue out of that.


The shields that are created out of granite rocks present here in the place are said to be only one of its kind in the entire Asia and dates back to over than 2,500 million years back. The lake also provides opportunity for the adventure seekers with activities like trekking, camping, rappelling, rock climbing etc. along with the water sports like mechanized boat, water scooter and pedal boat etc. The place is maintained by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. There are eating joints available in the area that adds a charm to your visit with its local snacks.


Other attractions along the shoreline are such as art gallery, a culptor park, artificial waterfalls, a rock garden, a floating fountain and an auditorium which can put up around 1,500 people at a time.
