Dhanu Yatra is one of the famous festivals of India celebrated in Bargarh place in Western Orissa. The festival is related with the event of with the episode of lord Krishna and his brother Balram visit to Mathura in order to attend the ceremony of “Bow”, the colorful festival organized by their mama Kansa. Today, the ceremony that was organized by Kansa is celebrated as a festival with the name of Dhanu Yatra. During Dhanu yatra, the town of Bargarh becomes Mathura, the river Jira becomes Yamuna and the village Amapalli on the other bank of the river becomes Gopa.
Various interesting performances are organized during the program and are attended by large number of people. The Puranic description of the festival is also shown in the form of drama performed by various skilled actors. The festival lasts for 7 to 11 days, till the Pausa poornima, the full moon day of pausa that comes in the month of December – January every year.
Various entertaining performances held in the festival from 3 pm to 9 pm. People from all over the country visit the place to enjoy the amazing performances at the fair. It is one of the best time when different people celebrate the common way at one place.
