Chini-Ka-Rauza

Chini-Ka-Rauza

Chini Ka Rauza is a spectacular tomb very close to Taj Mahal in Agra. The tomb is dedicated to the Prime Minister of Mughal dynasty Allama Afzal Khan, the Mullah of Shiraz, during the rule of Shah Jahan. The name Chini Ka Rauza has been derieved from most attractive tiles (Chini), which were employed to adorn the ceilings and walls of the structure. The tomb has been incorporated with different colors, blue, yellow and green tiles making it a splendid site to view.

The monument is situated on the left bank of the river Yamuna and keeps a distance of just a kilometer from Imtad-Ud-Daulahs Tomb. It has been constructed in the Indo-Persian architectural style and is maily in brown stone.

This magnificent structure has been constructed forming a rectangular silhouette and is only one of its kind with a bulbous tomb. It has an orthogonal chamber in its core along with several writings that are created with blue glazed tiles and are evidently noticeable in the tomb. The tomb has always stood as a unique reflection of the best of Mughal and Persian architectural styles.

As one proceeds towards the central chamber of the Chini ka Rauza having octagonal shape and boasting 8 curved recesses. There are 4 square chambers which are connected with the halls from their corners and outside porches. Nevertheless, the most significant feature of the tomb is the Afghan-style curved dome which is also decorated with inscriptions from Islamic wordings.
