Chhath Pooja is the famous festival celebrated in respect of sun God. The festival is celebrated with the end of the Deepavali. People consider it the way of purifying the soul. People of difference caste and religion can celebrate the occasion together at one place. The festival is celebrated with great zeal and entertainment especially in Bihar. Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Delhi and Chandigarh are some of the other where the festival is celebrated with immense pleasure.


The festival is usually celebrated in the months of October – November and on the sixth day of the month of kartika. There are many rituals related with this festival. One of the rituals followed on the day is of maintaining cleanliness at home. On the first day of the festival that lasts for four days people take a dip in the holy water.  People make only vegetarian food at home and that is also salt less. Along with that, only earthen vessels are used for the occasional Puja.


A person observing Chaath is known as Parvati. Parvati fasts from dawn to dusk that ends with eating sweets. It is then again followed with a major fast that lasts for 36 hours till the other dawn. People perform all the rituals related to Chhath Pooja on the river bank. The sun is offered with the Pooja material in the river water followed with the Prasad distribution at the end to the people available there.
