One of the finest destinations to visit in Ahmedabad, Calico museum of textiles exhibits an enormous collection of fabrics, which are collected from all over the country. Situated in the Indian state of Gujarat, the museum was founded by Ms. Gira Sarabhai. Established in the year 1949 AD, Calico museum of textiles showcases the wide variety of woven clothes. The great collection of clothes at the museum ranges from religious clothes to the ones worn in royal court rooms. Furthermore, Court textiles used by the Mughal along with clothes worn by the provincial rulers of 15th to 19th centuries are also beautifully displayed at the museum. Visitors at Calico museum of textiles will also get to see the exquisite designs and artwork in various kalamkaris, silks, pichhwais, patolas, bandhnis, floor spreads, tent canopies and precious brocades. The wide collection of clothes and textiles is classified in different galleries at the museum. Besides these, the museum also houses exhibition on ritual art, temple hangings, South Indian bronzes, Jain art and furniture crafts can also be seen.
Located in the premises of the Sarabhai foundation in the Shahibaug area, Calico museum of textiles remain open on all the days except on Wednesday. Also you need to confirm your visit to the museum in advance as only 20 visitors are allowed to go in one batch. The museum timings are 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM.
