The festival of Bhagoria is celebrated by the tribal people of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The festival is also rcognized as Bhagoria Haat Festival and is one of the most entertaining tribal festivals in the country as this festival has an interesting and a unique feature.

The Bhagoria Haat Festival basically belongs to the local tribes called Bhils and Bhilalas.


Bhagoradev is the God of dance and is worshipped on the festival is occasion. The eldest and the most respected person preside over the ceremony and also offer sweetmeats to the God of dance, Bhagoradev.


This amusing festival is held in the Jhabua district and is a festival of fun and joy. The festival marks its arrival a week before the Hindu festival of colors. In the festival both men and women celebrate this festival with its ritual of dancing at the beats of the drums and thalis, which is accompanied by the sweet melody of shehnai and bansuri (flutes).


The haat is arranged in the form of a swayamvar or can say a marriage market where young girls and boys are allowed to choose their partners. Bhagoria Haat Festival also marks the completion of harvesting. The ritual goes like the boys put red powder on the face of his chosen girl, with whom he want to get married and if the girl also do the same, it becomes clear that she also want the same guy to be married with. And if the is not agreed to it, then the boy can go after her as to win her heart.


The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and s held in the month of March.
