Bellary is positioned in the eastern part of the Indian state of Karnataka and is encircled with the districts of Davangere and Chitradurga towards its south, Raichur district in its north, the districts of Anantapur and Kurnool in its east and the district of Dharwad district in its west. The town of Bellary also stands with the headquarters of Bellary district feature granite hills, Kumbara Gudda and Ballari Gudda.


The city of Bellary took its name from the phrase Balari which refers to Goddess Durugamma as this Goddess had marked her evidence in the town. This historic city also holds some events of the great Indian epic Ramayana. It is believed that Lord Rama while on his journey to search Goddess Sita met Sugreeva and Hanuman at the very place and is in a close proximity to Hampi, the renowned capital of Vijayanagara kingdom.


The town of Bellary holds a rich history and has played a great role under the reign of Chalukyas of Kalyana, Satavahanas, Kalachuryas, Kadambas, Hoysalas and Sevunas. Bellary has also been under the reign of the Pandyas of Madurai, Aurangazeb, the huge Vijayanagar Empire, the Nizams, the Kakatiyas of Warrangal, Adilshahi Sultanate, the Delhi Sultanate, and the British as well.

The city of Bellary holds many places to visit which interest people such as Bellary Fort located on top of the Fort Hill and 16th century Bellary Gudda. Other attractions are the fort erected by Hande Hanumappa Nayaka, but later on it was restored by a French engineer under Hyder Ali when he conquered the fort from the family of Hande Nayaka. There is another attraction for the children as the city has an amusement park which consists of a musical fountain.


The other excursions from Bellary for the tourists include Ambali which is a Chalukyan Temple made of black stone, devoted to Kalleswari. Hampi, a World Heritage Site is also near Bellary. Other places include Daroji Bear Santuary, Narihalla Dam, Dr. Rajkumar Park, Bellary Zoo, Tungabhadra Dam, Hospet, Eeshwara Gudda and Kaate Gudda.


Climate of Bellary
Bellary experiences four seasons in a year, summer and monsoon, post-monsoon and winter. Post-monsoon from October-December and winter from January to February are the most pleasant time to visit. Here summers are also quite comfortable with mild heat, which further evaporates with the upcoming of monsoons in the month of June and remains the till the end of August. Generally the state bears a pleasant weather all across the year, yet having months from October till March the best months to step in the city.
