The town of Basar claims to be a census town in the district of West Siang, which forms a part of the north eastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. The town is popular for its inhabitants which belong to the Galo Tribe. The headquarters of the town are situated at Along. The district is sprawled over an area of about 8,326 sq km and with that it house to more than 1,03,575 of people , as it has been estimated in 2001 census.


The district is an abode to the main tribal groups of the Adi, Memba and Khamba.


The geographical location of Basar is at 27.98° North and 94.67° east. The district is situated at an altitude of about 579 m. As per the records of the census 2001, out of the total population males in the area constitutes 56% and female population constitutes 44%. The district of Basar has literacy rate of 72%, which makes up higher than the countrywide literacy rate of 59.5%. Out of which male literacy rate is 61% and female literacy rate is 39%, where 16% of the population comprises children who are under the age of six.
