Bamboo & Cane Crafts

Bamboo and cane crafts are one of the most famous crafts practiced in the North east part of India. The type of craft is highly prevalent in the states of Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Assam and Nagaland etc. Earlier used by the tribal societies, bamboo and cane crafts are a great source of art and earning livelihood in India. Tripura offers one of the best Indian bamboo and cane crafts that are very beautiful and are uniquely designed. A wide variety of bamboo and cane product are available here such as furniture, panels and partitions, table mats and floorings and lampshades etc. Bamboo pot containers and mattresses are also very famous in Tripura. Apart from Tripura, Assam also offers a quite useful range of bamboo and cane products such as baskets, beer mugs, floor and tablemats, musical instruments and fishing devices. Similarly, Mizoram is known for Mizo baskets and cane hats, Arunachal Pradesh for bamboo bridges and cane belts, Manipur for shaped baskets and so on. Apart from that, in northeast India, the headgear worn by the people working in tea gardens is made of bamboo, so is the handle of umbrella, which has delicate floral carvings on it.
