Badami Cave

Badami Cave

Badami caves are the complex of temples located at Badami, the north part of Karnataka, India. Lying under the Bagalkot District, Badami caves are the best examples of Indian rock-cut architecture, especially the ones under Badami Chalukyas. Rulers of Karnataka in the 6th to 8th centuries, Badami used to be the capital of Chalukyas. The town is known for its ancient cave temples carved out of the sandstone hills. Carved out of the soft Badami sandstone on a hill cliff, the Badami cave temples are composed of four caves. Their architecture is a blend of North Indian Nagara Style and South Indian Dravidian style. Along with that, the cave temples bear exquisite carvings, sculptures and beautiful murals. Badami caves travel and tourism provides the best way of travelling to this wonderful place.
