Situated in the Headquarter of the Eastern Command of the Indian Air Force, air force museum is a major tourist place to visit in Shillong, capital of eastern Indian state of Meghalaya. The museum is dedicated to the Indian air force and is displayed with the photographs of the Indo-Pak war and the Indo-China war along with various award winning photographs. Being at the museum makes you feel proud of the air force, guarding nation’s frontiers. It is the best place to gather information regarding the history of Indian air force. Other than that, there are various cultural things exhibited at the museum. The museum is the perfect place to visit for photo enthusiasts as there are lots of rare photographs which can only be seen here.


The fighter plane Caribou which was used in the Indo-Pak War of 1971 is displayed for the visitors in the museum. Apart from aircrafts, missiles and rockets, the skin of a very large python is also exhibited at this museum. Also, there is a gift shop inside museum selling key chains and other souvenirs.


The museum remains open on half a day on Sunday and it takes around 1 hour to 90 minutes to explore whole place. A valid photo identity or driving license is kept as security before entering the museum which is returned after coming out. entry to this air force museum is free for all.
