Kemmannugundi

The hill station of Kemmannugundi lies in Tarikere taluk which belongs to the district of Chikkamagaluru hat stands in the Indian state of Karnataka. The hill city nestles in the Baba Budan Hills, along with charismatic cascades, charming brooks and lush green foliage, the city is bedecked with beautiful gardens, surging mountains and deep valleys. The station stands at an elevation of about 1,434 m above the sea level.

The place was also known to be the summer resort of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and in order to pay a tribute to athe king; the place initially came to be known as Sri Krishnarajendra Hill Station (KR Hills). It is believed that the hill city of Kemmanagundi has derived its present name from the three Kannada words, Kempu – red, Mannu – soil & Gundi – place, altogether signifying a place with red soil. The hill city renders a spectacular sunset view from the Raj Bhavan giving a truly delightful treat to the photographer.

The queen of hills is enveloped with smell of untouched hill breeze, the twittering of birds & the resonance of gushing rivers, Kemmanagundi makes it sure to invigorate and revive your heart and soul. The hill spot is blessed with a pleasant and a moderate climate with average rainfall that is received in its very season.

Here in the hill city there is an office of the Royal Horticultural Society of the state of Karnataka which is elegantly landscaped with beautiful lush green gardens that are ornamented with colorful blossoming flowers.

The excursion in its vicinity is the Hebbe Falls which is just at a distance of 10 km from the city. The place is easily accessible as it is just at a 260 km drive away from one of the major cities Bangalore and 225 km away from the city of Mangalore and possesses a well developed network of roadways making it easier to reach at the spot.
